Letter from the Chairman

Sat, 07 Sep 2019

As the summer evenings draw in and we look ahead to
autumns arrival, it is not just the seasons that have changed. So to, has the
management of Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show.

This year’s show, which takes place Saturday 14th
September, is the first for David Millard as Show president. The first for Hannah
George as Show Organiser and the first for me in  my new role as Show
Chairman. Formerly acting as Vice-Chairman, and Chairman of the Fodder &
Grain section before that.  I have been assisting with Frome Show for an enjoyable 45 years,
following in the footsteps of five generations of the Cary family before me. I
am honoured to be leading the proceedings of an event that consistently offers
a wonderful day out for all the family. From musical performances, to funfair
rides, from livestock and horse showing to cooking lessons with Jean-Christophe
Novelli, there is something for everyone throughout the course of the day.

As a grandfather of 5 myself I appreciate that days
out can be costly, which is why we strive to keep pricing affordable. When
booked in advance, a family ticket (covering 2 adults and 3 children) will cost
you £33 and grants access to the full day of programming, including the many
free activities that we have put in place such as laser clay shooting,
performances from Mr Bloom of CBeebies fame, Tractor Ted and the chance to meet
a pair of real life dinosaurs (or at least, very realistic walking, talking
replicas!). We are also running a free shuttle bus between Frome town and the
show ground throughout the day.

Whether you are Somerset born and bred, or a
recently relocated resident Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show is a great way
to experience and celebrate everything that the local area has to offer. I am
pleased to confirm that as opposed to previous years we will have cattle, sheep,
pigs and poultry (amongst other live stock) present at this years show. There
is a wide range of impressive agricultural machinery to observe and inspire.
Keeping the community in mind, I am pleased to see many local businesses
joining in with the extensive Trade Stand offerings, providing local food and
drink, crafts and gifts.

I look forward to seeing you a week on Saturday.
