First elected female Vice-Chairman elected for the Frome & District Agricultural Society
On Wednesday 31st May 2023, the Frome & District Agricultural Society held their AGM, where both Mr Paul Cary (Chairman) and Mr Steve Welch (Vice-Chairman) were duly re-elected for the forthcoming year. We are thrilled to announce the new appointment of a second Vice-Chairman, Ms Kirsten Penny, who will be supporting Paul and Steve in their respective roles.
Kirsten Penny will be the first woman in the history of the Society to be appointed as Vice-Chairman. Having been involved with the Society for 18 years and head of the Equine section for 10 years at the annual Frome Agricultural & Cheese Show, the Directors felt her invaluable knowledge, commitment and love of the Show would be an asset to the management team.
Steve Welch has been involved with the Show for 27 years, going back to when it was held at the Old Showfield, Rodden Road. His first job for the Show was car parking and then he moved to the Gate Committee when the Show relocated to the West Woodlands Showground in the early 2000’s. This will be Steve’s fifth year as Vice Chairman.
Paul Cary was first appointed Chairman in 2019 after formerly being head of the Fodder & Grain section for many years. The Cary family have a long-standing history with the Frome Agricultural & Cheese Show, going as far back to a poster for the 1864 Show which shows a Mr Cary as a Cheese Judge. Edwin Cary was the Chairman of the Society from 1927-1947. Herbert Charles Cary was Chairman from 1958-1977 and Philip Cary from 2001-2006.
This year’s Frome Agricultural & Cheese Show will be held on Saturday 9th September 2023. With already announced acts from Extreme Bike Battle and Gem from CBeebies’ Swashbuckle to the new ‘Little Show Goers Play Zone,’ we are sure there will be something that all the family will enjoy!
