Tradestand regular is show's biggest fan
Fussels Fine Foods spotted a niche market in oils, vinaigrettes, mayos and more, and today the successful business and its fun-loving staff sell oceans of their popular products on their stand at the Frome Show. Here founder Andy Fussell reveals why the show works so well for him
When and how did you start up the business?
Fussels Fine Foods emerged 10 years ago.
Was it daunting undertaking a business venture?
Well, running a farm, a haulage business and various other concerns made me ready for the challenge.
How many staff do you have working for you?
Five full time and an army of amazing ‘marketeers’.
What is a typical day in the life of Andy Fussell?
Early and late and everything else in between. The business just keeps on expanding.
Where do you distribute your products?
We attend a lot of local markets and food events. We also supply a number of delis, stores and farm shops locally and we have several incredible wholesalers who we work with, as well as many of the area’s Waitrose stores.
Are there any plans to expand?
We have just installed a new press, filtration system, labeller and filler, so yes we have big plans for the future. On top of that, we are just about to launch a new demonstration kitchen in which we will be running an amazing range of events that everyone with an interest in food can get involved with. We will have great guest chefs offering a range of interactive events to cater for foodies everywhere.
When will that be set up for the general public?
The launch is on June 30th and the first events will commence in July
Fussell is sponsoring the Fodder and Grain and Cattle sections of Frome Show. What does the show mean to you?
We are a farm-based business and we are absolutely committed to engaging consumers in the amazing story of how food gets on plates. Local food and agricultural events are a terrific opportunity to talk to people about our passion for great food.
How long have you been visiting Frome Show?
Mmmmm, not sure, but it’s been a good few years and we love it.
What is your favourite aspect of Frome Show?
Meeting, talking, sharing and being a part of a great local community event.
You have a tradestand at the show which always proves very successful. Why do you think this is?
It would be fair to say that we are quite well known, always entertaining and we sell a great range of products.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to set up their own business?
You need a clear vision, a USP, a lot of passion and total commitment. Easy!
