Frome Cheese Show News

A lake recently constructed at Frome Showground will be landscaped with trees and shrubs funded by Wessex Water.

Frome and District Agricultural Society has received a £250 Watermark award from the water company to enhance the lake so it can be developed into a fun and educational resource for the community.

The new lake has already been used for fly fishing and gundog scurries and it is hoped that this improvement work will attract wildlife to the showground and increase its biodiversity.

Brenda Scott, Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show secretary, said: “Our main aim is to educate the general public by opening the showground to local schools and the wider community throughout the year.

“We want children to associate the showground with the exciting hands on experience of exploring pond life and we are delighted with this support from Wessex Water which will help us plant trees and shrubs around the lake.”

The Watermark awards provide funds for environmental projects within the Wessex Water area.

Now in its 17th year, it has supported more than 500 initiatives. Organised by the Conservation Foundation, all projects are judged by a panel chaired by its president David Bellamy.

Clare-Marie Dobing, of Wessex Water, presented Brenda Scott and Jim Salmon, chairman of Frome and District Agricultural Society, with a £250 Watermark award at Frome Showground.
